THANKS FOR VISITING !
THE 2013 season featured
'FIDDLER ON THE ROOF' !
A giant of a production.
"FIDDLER" is one of the greats in musical theatre and a big undertaking for our theatre.
The story is based on the Sholem Aleichem short story, "Tevye The Milkman and his Daughters".
The time is 1905 in the small village of Anatevka in Czarist Russia. The story itself translates even today in its messages: traditions, generational changes, and finally - displacement, the eternal struggle for some - to find a home.
"With this production, we closed the doors to the 'Liliana Moraru Santa Cruz Jewish Theatre'. We have had a wonderful run of years. Last year's "Driving Miss Daisy" and "The Diary of Anne Frank" won four IMEA Awards in acting and tech work (International Music and Entertainment Awards) and were testimonies to great ensemble work as well as dedication to the demanding art of theatre. Liliana would have loved this adventure!
At the end of 2013, the 'Management', Fred and I, have moved to the east coast, to the white sands and blue waters of North Carolina! (And to that lovely Southern grace and charm I miss so much .... I lived in southern Florida for 12 wonderful years. Both coasts of this great country have so much to offer!)" ... Plans for the future include continuing our work in theatre. Yes "It's in our blood". This site will remain in memory of our wonderful friend, Liliana Moraru. When we have more to tell you about our new venture in theatre, it will be posted here as well as on a new site in 'treading the boards' right here in North Carolina. We can't thank you enough for all your support in Santa Cruz.
Thanks once again to KSCO and to Santa Cruz Good Times, as well as to our theatre friends who stood behind us.

"You have more than exceeded our expectations this 2012 season. Driving Miss Daisy was brilliant. The Diary of Anne Frank left us breathless. Wonderful acting, great direction, set, light and sound effects. The Liliana Moraru Santa Cruz Jewish Theatre has left an amazing footprint among the theaters that fill our community.
Thank you for the quality we did not expect in a venue with such limitations. It takes more than magic. It takes artistry and hard work." (from a devoted fan)
This comment completely blew us away! Thank you, whoever you are !!!
(Notes came in to us all the time .. it was so gratifying.)

In tribute and honor to a creative spirit, an amazingly supportive woman of our community Jewish Theatre, & of the Santa Cruz Arts,
we re-named the original Santa Cruz Jewish Theatre.
Liiana passed from our world at 55, the night before the opening of our first show.
A great friend & invaluable force in pushing us all forward.
Our theatre stands because of her incredible strength
& love of the Arts.
In her honor, and her unforgettable memory, we became:
THE LILIANA MORARU
SANTA CRUZ JEWISH THEATRE
We are a member theatre of the ASSOCIATION FOR JEWISH THEATRE and the American Association of Community Theatre.
*Material from new playwrights was always welcome and kept
coming. Together, we were 'one'.
COMMENTS: "You don't have to be Jewish to LOVE Santa Cruz Jewish Theatre!"
Eileen Casey - (from an old Levy Bread ad)
"What a lovely way to spend an evening!"
Robin Zimmer - (former editor, The Beacon)
"Oh, SAM! You look just like Vincent Price!!" ... from "Crossing Delancey", 2010, our theatre's fantastic opener!
Christine Silver and Scott Kravitz (the 'matchmaker' and the 'pickle-man')
LILIANA ONCE TOLD one of OUR STAGE MANAGERS:
"AN ACTOR IS LIKE BEING A DUCK! - ON THE SURFACE YOU ARE BEAUTIFUL, CALM AND COLLECTED, BUT BELOW THE SURFACE YOUR FEET ARE PADDLING LIKE CRAZY!"
